One Minute Eisenhower Email Hack

Time is the one thing we can’t make more of. And, thanks to technology there is no clear line when work stops.

Consequently, emails come at all times of the day/night including from overseas. Savvy marketers are gaming the system for optimised send times.

I find most email newsletters are:

  • 100% not urgent

  • 95% not important

I am on 200+ email lists and I have found it helpful to review my email subscriptions in one time-block and eliminate continual inbox distractions to focus on what’s in front of me.

Dwight Eisenhower once said: “What is important is seldom urgent and what is urgent is seldom important."

So here's one hack to simplify your inbox and your life:

  1. In Outlook, create a new folder called “My Email Lists”

  2. Set up a rule where all emails where the word "unsubscribe” exists is placed in the dedicated folder.

Here are the steps:

  • Open the File menu

  • Select "Manage Rules & Alerts"

  • Create a New rule

  • Pick: Move Messages from Someone to a Folder..

  • Pick: With specific words in the body...

  • You'll figure out the rest...

Now you can schedule a time to check Email Lists in one block. Scan for the important ones etc.

Ahhh. The simplicity of de-cluttered inbox. It sparks joy.
